Planning Committee Shakeup

It's time for change, Gold Coast!

Mayoral candidate Mona Hecke intends to introduce a raft of changes to the way the mayor and councillors’ offices and meetings are run if she is elected as Mayor this Saturday.

“To start, I intend to set up branch offices in Southport, Robina and Coomera and be a mobile Mayor who works at each location at least 1 day per week,” Mona Hecke said.

“My proposal to improve the planning committee as soon as administratively possible is to divide it into two: Divisions 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11 to meet at Coomera, and Divisions 4, 6, 10, 12, 13, 14 to meet at Robina.

“This way, committee meetings will be more accessible for community members to attend.”

Ms Hecke also plans to appoint divisional councillors to chair the planning committees on an annual rotating basis, while as mayor, she will chair a Coordination Committee of the two, prior to ratification at full council meetings.

“I will be the mayor who is in touch with and who cares for the whole of the city and community,” she said.
