My Promise To Gold Coasters
With just 4 weeks until Election Day on March 28, I want to make a public declaration that I will always put You first, knowing that, if we make our city the best it can be for locals, it will also attract tourists and investors.
More than ever our city needs someone who can work with local communities, businesses and developers, to protect and enhance what is special about the Gold Coast and ensure that it grows in a way that we can all be proud of.
I have many ideas to improve our city; but I won’t make spending promises that we can’t afford. I will focus on core responsibilities and keep rates down.
I’m not from the political establishment. I am independent of party affiliations and financial influences that could distract me from making sound decisions in the public interest.
Leading a city as large and complex as the Gold Coast demands a person with deep local knowledge, foresight, creativity, decisiveness and the ability to build partnerships. I have all of these, plus boundless energy to serve as your Mayor.
I love the Gold Coast. I went to school and raised my kids here. I’ve had a successful career here. I know how this city works, and what it needs from our council to succeed: honest, open and purposeful leadership that engages the power of community.
I will work hard for you for the next 4 years to build a better city and a better life – for everybody.
It’s time to correct our course. Our roads are choking. Our economy is changing shape. Our environment and lifestyle are under threat by poorly planned and designed development. We need a change of leadership to keep our city moving, to innovate and diversify our economy and promote responsible development.
To build a better city and a better life, we must:
- fix M1 congestion, grow an efficient and convenient public transport network and speed up delivery of safe walkways and cycleways;
- revitalise our central business districts, expand our tourism niches, support small business and foster sustainable and creative enterprises; and
- ensure that all infrastructure and development is planned and designed to achieve a beautiful city.
It’s time to bring greater commitment to fostering a caring community. Our council must play a role to improve basic social needs like housing diversity and affordability, aged-care and crisis accommodation, and crime prevention. There is also room for improvement in management and design of core council deliverables like nature reserves, parks and gardens, sporting facilities, libraries and arts.
We can never have too many polling volunteers
Many voters will not know who they are going to vote for as they approach the polling booths. I can’t be everywhere, so having a lot of Mona4Mayor team members at pre-polling and election day will give a strong signal that I am a well- supported candidate. I have 6 pre-polling and 90+ Election Day booths to cover.
Anyone who has helped with electioneering before knows how fast the time goes. It’s fun and I can guarantee you will meet some wonderful people.
Please consider volunteering a few hours of your time to help me, to help us all, for a better city.
